Learn More About
Medical Residency Loans

Funding your medical residency may be one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make in your lifetime. Make sure you have all the information you need before you sign by reading
the information below.

  • What do I need to apply?

To complete your application, you and your cosigner (if applicable) must have the following information:

    • Name, address, phone number, email address
    • Date of birth
    • Social Security Number
    • Recent pay stub (no more than 30 days old) or other proof of income and monthly housing payment
    • Employer name, phone number and length of employment (if applicable)
    • Loan amount needed
    • Student's anticipated graduation date (if applicable)
    • Cosigner name and valid email address (if applicable)
  • Are there any fees for Citizens One Student Loans?
The Citizens One Student Loan® for Medical Residency has no origination, application, or disbursement fees.
  • Are cosigners required?
You need to present a strong credit profile, which is derived from your credit score and ability to repay. Although a cosigner is not required, applying with a creditworthy cosigner can increase your chances of approval and may result in a lower interest rate.
  • What are my repayment options?
    • Immediate - Pay both the principal and interest amounts while enrolled in school or during your residency
    • In-School Interest Only - Make interest payments but defer payments on the principal amount
    • Deferred - Make no payments while in school and for up to 48 months during your residency
  • What is the deferment period?
You may defer repayment of your loan while in school and request an extension for up to 48 months while you are in a residency program.
  • What is Multi-Year Approval?
Citizens One is committed to staying with you all the way through graduation. Multi-Year Approval provides an easy way to secure funding for additional years in school, without needing a hard credit inquiry for subsequent requests for funds in those later years. When you apply, you will be presented with the total amount you are eligible to borrow for all the years you are in school. If approved, you will be notified after you have submitted your application. This feature is available for both Citizens One Student Loan® and Citizens One Student Loan® for Parents. Please note: International Students and Bar Study Loans are not eligible for Multi-Year Approval.
